Nottingham Arboretum

Arboretum means Tree Garden but there are more than just trees in this small but beautiful park, only ten minutes walk from a busy city centre it offers a peaceful escape from the fast paced city life.
The Park is Grade II listed and contains nine listed buildings and structures.

The Arboretum was designed by Samuel Curtis and was opened on
the 11th May 1852. The statue is of Fearcus O'Connor Esq. M.P.
it was erected by his admirers in 1859.

 

 

 

The Chinese Bell Tower was erected in 1859 to house a Chinese bell
which was taken by soldiers from a temple in the Chinese city of
Canton during the Opium wars, the bell here today is a replica.
The cannon were captured during the Crimean War and presented to the city.

 

The Rose Garden, the roses have almost finished now

The Bandstand, the first performance in the Bandstand was on May 17th
1907, open air concerts were a regular thing on summer evenings.

The main Aviary was built around 1955-6 but the circular one at the end
 dates from 1889, the Aviary has a collection of exotic birds.

 

The Lake is an original feature of the park

 

 

As well as the the colourful autumn leaves in the park the Dahlia borders
bring back a feel of summer
