Kinder Scout
The High Peak District

2007 is the 75th anniversary of the mass trespass of Kinder Scout, for events and more information visit the Kinder Trespass website.
At 2,088 ft Kinder Scout is the highest point in the Peak District National Park,
The plateau was made famous on April 24th 1932 when some four or five
hundred ramblers set off from Bowden Bridge Quarry for the Mass Trespass
onto Kinder Scout, it was not made in vain for some years later the Peak
National Park was the first to be designated in Britain in 1951. The walk starts
at Bowden Bridge car park near Hayfield village.

Walking up the meadows, the first sight of Kinder Scout's
western slopes covered in mist and cloud doesn't look promising.

Looking back to Hayfield from Kinderlow End

A steep ascent yet to come but the views are worth it.

Before Kinder Low, continuing to the summit.

Trig Point on Kinder Low, the flat summit of Kinder Scout.

 Fantastic views at this point

The Kinder Reservoir was constructed in 1910

A little further and you can see the Mermaid's Pool

Kinder Downfall, the hot summer has made the plateau
very dry, so no waterfall this time. If you look closely near the top
right of the picture there is a solitary figure wearing a red top and
blue trousers, this gives some idea of the scale of the Downfall.

Looking down from the top of the Downfall,
the path of Kinder River can clearly be seen.

Following the path to the north/west edge of Kinder Scout

After the steep descent from Kinder Scout, a left turn......

.......down into William Clough. On the way down to Kinder Reservoir,
you cross the stream several times.

There are many small waterfalls along the way

Walking beside the Kinder Reservoir

One last look at Kinder Downfall

On the way to Booth Farm next to the River Kinder

Passing Booth Farm and looking back the big black cloud is coming my
way, but thankfully a short walk to Hill Houses then back to the car park.
