Overlooking the harbour Huers Hut is a Grade II listed building and
thought to date from the 14th century. It is a relic from the days when
Newquay depended on its Pilchard fishing industry, the Huers watched for
the arrival of shoals of fish and when seen made a hue (cry) to the
harbour below, with means of shouts and hand signals the huers directed
the fishing boats to circle the shoals with their nets. |
