Stanage Edge is situated north of Hathersage with moors above and below it, the gritstone edge is approximately 4 miles in length from the northern Stanage End to Cowper Stone at the southern tip. Stanage Edge is very popular with walkers and especially with rock climbers, sections of the edge have been given names, Marble Wall, Crow Chin, Robin Hood's Cave, Goliath's Grove and High Neb being the highest point near the northern tip at 458 meters above sea level.

North Lees Hall, the tower was built in the 1590's, the Hall has had many owners but the best known was the Eyre family who lived here between 1750 and 1882. In 1845 Charlotte Bronte stayed with a friend in Hathersage, in her romantic novel "Jane Eyre", the description of Thornfield Hall home of Mr Rochester is regarded as being North Lees Hall.
