Lees Hall, the tower was built in the 1590's, the Hall has had many
owners but the best known was the Eyre family who lived here between
1750 and 1882. In 1845 Charlotte Bronte stayed with a friend in
Hathersage, in her romantic novel "Jane Eyre", the description of
Thornfield Hall home of Mr Rochester is regarded as being North Lees
Hall. |
